Cactus and Llama Party

cactus and llama party

I am so excited to show you this cactus and llama party today. It all started with my free design of the cactus cupcake toppers over on Silhouette this week. I couldn’t just leave it as a single cactus design. I don’t know why, but it drove me crazy. So I worked some crazy hours designing a full party this week. I’m so glad I did! The colors and llamas make this the happiest party I’ve ever done. How can you not smile when you see llamas? tall cactus cupcake topper

Cupcake Toppers

Look how cute the cupcakes are placed in terra cotta pots. It’s those small details that go a long way in a party. These would also be great gifts for a friend when someone needs a little pick-me-up or when they just needs a sweet treat. :)

These cactus cupcake toppers are free as part of my artist feature with Silhouette this week. If you haven’t already grabbed it, make sure you do before it ends tomorrow. cactus cupcakes in terra cotta pot

How to Make Cactus Cupcakes

  1. Pipe some vanilla frosting on top of your cupcakes.
  2. Add gold sprinkles to the top.
  3. Cut out the cactus cupcake toppers and insert in the top.
  4. Fill the bottom of your terra cotta pots with some paper to keep the cupcake from falling to the bottom where you won’t be able to see the top.
  5. Place cupcakes in pots.

Llama Prints

I love the texture and color the basket full of yarn brings to the whole party set up. I added a framed llama print to tie it in with the rest of the table. To make the 5×7 print, I used this pink and teal llama and just added a rectangle behind it. Using the eyedropper tool in Silhouette Studio, you can select and give it the same background color. I think I’ll keep this frame up in my house. Every time my daughter sees the llamas she gets the giggles. Having it out for everyone to see and hearing her laugh sounds like a good idea.

Llama Tags

You can easily dress up any drink you are serving with these llama tags. These would also be so cute on party favors or used as gift tags. I made cactus tags also that would look so great mixed in if you had a variety of colored drinks, or even bottles of red or orange soda. cactus and llama party garlands

Tassel and Llama Garlands

My original idea was to make a bunch of yarn tassels and string them up for the garland. The laziness in me won (no surprise there) and there was no way I was going to make that many. I drew some tassels and cut them out with the Silhouette CAMEO. This was sooooo much faster! I just used a little adhesive on the inside and then folded it over the twine. I love the simplicity of it, yet it adds so much color and looks great next to the llama banner.

The detail of the pom poms around each llama makes this banner so much fun. The banner was assembled the same way as the tassel garland. There is a flap at the top that folds over along the perforated line to run your twine through before you glue the flap down.

Ice Cream Party

ice cream party

There is a pretty big reason to celebrate around our house. We welcomed a new baby boy into the family last month and he is perfect. I decided to throw a surprise ice cream party for the kids to celebrate them, as well as eliminate any jealousy they may feel towards the new baby brother. (Which turns out, there isn’t any. They absolutely adore their baby brother.)baby ice cream party hat

Everyone wore party hats that looked like melting ice cream cones. The kids thought these were so funny and giggled that there was ice cream dripping off their heads. We even had a tiny one for the baby. They all loved his hat most of all, and it was hard to keep their little hands away from him. giant ice cream cone

Jax thought it was so funny to use all the ice cream cones that were stacked on the table. Of course I had to snap a picture of that happy face. Ice Cream Bar

The decorations for the party were simple and pretty minimal. After all, I did just have a baby. Give me a break. :) I didn’t make any banners or garlands for this one, and just stuck with a few table decorations.ice cream cone centerpiece

For the centerpiece I made a giant ice cream cone using the party hat cut file and a balloon. I attached them to the center pole of this IKEA planter. I filled the pot with gifts for each of the kids. Each gift bag was embellished with a dripping ice cream cone border to tie them into the ice cream theme. ice cream bar toppings sprinkles

Running down the center of the table were all the toppings for the ice cream bar. Each place setting had a hat, ice cream container and a utensil holder. We dished up the ice cream and then the kids could put on any toppings they wanted. I let them get pretty carried away, because this was a party after all.

I love that this party can be used to celebrate any occasion. It would be perfect for an upcoming graduation party, birthday or just to celebrate summer. Enjoy!

Ice Cream Cone Treat Boxes

ice cream treats 2

These ice cream cone treat boxes are perfect for giving small gifts to friends or guests at a party. I love the style and size of the sour cream pouch box. They’re easy to assemble and hold just the right amount of treats inside. And don’t you just love the sprinkles on top? Everything looks better covered in sprinkles.

These cones would also make a cute invitation for an ice cream social or other fun summer party. You could type the party info on the scoops of ice cream, or even stuff the info along with a treat inside the cone. There are so many different ways to use these adorable little cones.

You can find step-by-step instructions for how to assemble this style of treat box HERE. Both ice cream cone treat boxes are available in the Silhouette Design Store. Download and cut yours out, then start spreading little gifts of happiness to those around you.

Tropical Paradise

tropical cupcakes

Back in May I was invited to attend the Silhouette Summit in Hawaii that Silhouette hosted to debut their new products coming out this year. It was so fun, obviously, and I came back so rejuvenated and inspired by all the beauty those islands hold. I apparently came back on Hawaiian time, because it took me a few months to get back into the swing of things and create these tropical paradise designs. Haha!

Pineapple and Coconut Boxes

The pineapple and coconut box are fun to use as decor for a luau, to hold utensils and treats, or to use as gift box containing a party favor. You can find some simple instructions for assembling the boxes on Amanda Coleman’s blog, or more detailed step-by-step instructions using my 3D apple tutorial that is very similar to these shapes.

Cupcake Wrappers

One of the reasons I love cupcake wrappers so much is they can dress up any cupcake. I am not a baker and don’t have the talent of making beautifully frosted cupcakes. I can swirl on some white frosting and add some sprinkles though. With the addition of the cupcake wrappers and toppers, they look professional and almost make it look like I know what I’m doing. ;) Plus, my dessert now coordinates with the rest of my party which is always a good thing.

Here’s another look at the gift card envelopes. The card slides in to complete the image through the cut-out piece on the envelopes. Fun, right? You can write a little a message on the card, then slip it in the envelope with the gift card. So simple, but such a thoughtful touch.palm tree gift card 2

Host a Luau this summer and I know all your guests will enjoy these fun tropical designs too.

Barbecue Party

BBQ printables

With all the summer barbecues going on, I wanted to create a party kit that was simple, fast and could be done by anyone. A great party can still be made on limited time and expense.

BBQ printables

I was inspired by Heather Bailey’s Nicey Jane – Porch Swing collection and went from there. The pinwheels were made by adhering fabric to coordinating cardstock with Silhouette’s Fabric Interfacing. I wanted to use the fabric anywhere I could and thought they were perfect for pinwheels.  I used sticker paper to print and cut labels for the drinks and it was done.

The dessert was delicious and was so simple. I layered a cookie, hot fudge and ice cream in cupcake wrappers. Every body loved them and they were so easy to make.

Enjoy hosting your own party for any occasion and celebration with these fun decorations.
